Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology

The main objectives of UF Health Pathology Laboratories' Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Laboratory are to make excellent clinical services available to patients and proactively support general dentistry and medicine practitioners, as well as endodontists, periodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, pediatric dentists and medical pathologists, in the diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial pathology.

We are committed to the advancement of the field of oral pathology and to the education of general and oral pathology residents, oral and maxillofacial surgeons and dentists. We practice a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. In addition to our evaluation of conventional histology and immunofluorescence microscopy, we routinely utilize a quantitative panel of specialized immunohistochemical, cytogenetic and molecular techniques in our diagnoses.

The Laboratory's oral pathology activities include:
  • Making comprehensive academic instruction available for students of the University of Florida Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry;
  • Actively participating in the education of UF dental students and residents, as well as contributing to the continuing medical education of dentists and physicians; and
  • Making pathology services available to dentists, physicians and patients throughout the state of Florida.
