Robin M. Foss, B.A., BHS, P.A. (ASCP)
- A member of the Department's Residency Advisory Committee;
- A fellow in the American Association of Pathologists' Assiatants; and
- Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Playing a critical role in the education of UF residents and in the service responsibilities of the Department of Pathology, Foss directly oversees the operation in the grossing rooms and frozen section areas at UF Health Shands Hospital North and South Towers in Gainesville, Fla. His primary responsibilities are to ensure that specimens are processed following established pathology protocols. He also archives the gross specimen photo images and has created a database for retrieval by Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) codes.
Foss received two first place awards and an honorable mention in ASCP-sponsored gross specimen photography contests in 2000 and 2001. Additionally, the UF Department of Pathology awarded Foss the Resident Educator of the Year Award for his outstanding service from 2005 - 06.
In 1979, Foss graduated from Duke University's Pathologists' Assistant Program. He later worked in a private pathology group for eight years in upstate New York (Utica) before transferring to UF in 1987.
