Sherri Flax, MD, FCAP, FASCP
A native of North Carolina, Sherri Flax, MD, earned her undergraduate degree at Guilford College. She later obtained her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also completed her residency in pathology and fellowship in immunopathology with J. Charles Jennette, MD. Dr. Flax then completed a fellowship in hematopathology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Prior to joining the University of Florida, Dr. Flax was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. She has more than two decades of experience as a medical director for a variety of clinical laboratories, including:
- Flow cytometry;
- Transfusion medicine;
- Microbiology; and
- Molecular laboratories.
Dr. Flax has been a director of surgical pathology with expertise in hematopathology and renal pathology throughout her career, and she has extensive experience in point-of-care testing.
She has also received teaching awards from medical students, residents and a fellowship. One such award, the University of Tennessee's Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award, ws given to Dr. Flax in recognition of her lifetime achievement in education.
