Specimen Requirements: 

Collect blood by venipuncture into an SST/gold-top tube or alternatively a light-green/lithium heparin tube.

For serum, allow the specimens to clot at room temperature. Separate the serum/plasma from the cells, using a refrigerated centrifuge and avoid hemolysis. If possible, keep specimens cold (2 - 8°C).

Stability (collection to time of analysis/testing):
  • Refrigerated (2 - 8°C): 7 days
  • Frozen (-20°C): 2 months

  • Adult Males (≥ 18 years): 0.7 to 11.1 pg/mL
     
  • Adult Females (≥ 18 years):
    • Untreated Postmenopausal: ND to –30 pg/mL
    • Treated Postmenopausal: ND–to 93 pg/mL
    • Oral Contraceptives: ND to –102 pg/mL
       
  • Ovulatory Cycles:
    • Follicular Phase: ND - –160 pg/mL
    • Follicular Phase (Days 2 - 3): ND - –84 pg/mL
    • Periovulatory (± 3 Days): 34 - –400 pg/mL
    • Luteal Phase: 27– - 246 pg/mL
