Specimen Requirements:

Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Serum gel

Sample Volume: Submit full tubes.

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum

Preparation:

  1. Send specimens in their original tubes.
  2. Centrifuge tubes if there is a delay in transport of more than 1 hour.
Storage:

  • Sample is stable for 7 days at 15 - 25°C
  • Sample is stable 30 days at 2 - 8ºC

Unacceptable Conditions: Samples with moderate or marked hemolysis will be rejected.

Methodology:

Cupric ions in an alkaline solution react with proteins and polypeptides containing at least two peptide bonds to produce a violet colored complex.
