Utilizing revolutionary line probe assays, identification turnaround time of most common NTM species has been markedly reduced from weeks to days.
Our lab is able to provide a report of antimicrobial resistance markers for macrolides [erm(41) and rrl] and aminoglycosides (rrs) within a week (post-culture positivity) for the following species: Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, Mycobacterium chimaera, M. abscessus subsp. abscessus, M. abscessus subsp. massiliense, M. abscessus subsp. bolletii and Mycobacterium chelonae.
Conventional microbroth dilution of susceptibility testing is available as well, with an expected average post-culture positivity turnaround time of 3 weeks for rapid growers and 4 weeks for slow growers.
Clinical consultation and interpretation of results will be made available to physicians who request this service. In addition to answering questions about specific results, desired information about referral to specialized NTM clinics throughout Florida will be provided.
