UF Health Pathology Laboratories’ Cytogenetics Laboratory is dedicated to making superior clinical services available to patients with genetic and neoplastic diseases.
We proactively assist and counsel geneticists, pediatricians, hematologists, oncologists and surgeons in the care of their patients. Our staff is committed to contributing to the advancement of the field of cytogenetics and to the education of future healthcare professionals.
For more than four decades, our Cytogenetics Laboratory has made a comprehensive assortment of clinical cytogenetic tests available, which include prenatal, postnatal and cancer diagnostic studies. In addition to conventional or classic chromosome studies (karyotyping), we also make molecular cytogenetic diagnostic studies by fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) methodologies available for both cancer and congenital applications, as well as comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) microarray studies for congenital applications.
The Division’s other cytogenetic activities include:
- Making comprehensive academic instruction available for students of the University of Florida’s College of Medicine;
- Actively participating in the education of UF pediatric and pathology students and residents, as well as contributing to the continuing medical education of physicians; and
- Making cytogenetic pathology services available to physicians, healthcare organizations, and patients throughout the state of Florida.
