Additional Information:

UFHPL Test #: 10105

CPT Code(s):

Collection Procedure:

Specimen Requirements:

  • Acceptable specimens include whole blood or plasma. Blood should be collected in sterile lavender-top tubes, using EDTA as the anticoagulant.
  • The minimum required sample volume is 1 mL of plasma or whole blood volume that will produce 1 mL of plasma after centrifugation.
  • Samples must be collected aseptically to minimize hemolysis and bacterial contamination.
  • Whole blood must be centrifuged within 6 hours of collection at 800 – 1600 x g for 20 minutes at room temperature and can be stored at 2 – 25 °C for up to 24 hours.
  • Plasma may be stored at 25 – 30 °C for up to 24 hours and then at 2 to 8°C for up to 6 days or -20 to -80 °C for up to 6 weeks.
  • Transportation of whole blood or plasma must comply with country, federal, state and local regulations for the transport of etiologic agents.
Sample Rejection Reasons:

  • Clotted or frozen whole blood
  • Plasma volume less than 1 mL
  • Whole blood that is more than one day old that has not been spun
